Editor’s responsibilities

Publication decisions

Following consultation with members of the Editorial Board, the Editor has the responsibility of deciding which submissions will be published.

The Editor will evaluate a manuscript based only on its quality, relevance, originality and clarity; no regard will be paid to an author’s race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship or political philosophy (where these matters are known).

Requirements regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism will be considered where appropriate.


The Editor and members of the Editorial Board will not disclose information about a submission to anyone other than the corresponding author or other members of the Editorial Board, where appropriate.

Material submitted to the Journal of Pedagogic Development will not be used by the Editor or members of the Editorial Board for their own research purposes without the author's written consent.


Reviewers' responsibilities

The peer-reviewing process helps the Editor and the Editorial Board make editorial decisions and aims to improve the quality of a submission. A  reviewer who does not feel qualified to review a submission, or who is aware that a prompt review will be impossible, is asked to  withdraw from the review process. Reviews should be conducted objectively, and personal criticism of the author is considered inappropriate. Throughout the process, a submission is to be treated as a confidential document.

Reviewers should be clear in the feedback that they provide. Where published work referred to in the submission has not been cited in the References section, reviewers should highlight this omission. Reviewers should notify the Editor of any similarity between the submission and any other published work of which they have knowledge.


Authors' duties

A submission will be presented clearly and contain sufficient detail and references to enable others to replicate the work, where appropriate. The inclusion of knowingly inaccurate statements is unethical and unacceptable. A submission must be the author’s own original work. Authors will submit only entirely original works, with the inclusion of references and citation where appropriate. In the case of a co-authored submission, the corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all contributing co-authors are included in the author list and that they have approved the final version of the submission before it is published.

In the case of an author discovering a significant error in his/her own work, it is the author’s responsibility to notify the Editor in order for the paper either to be corrected or an erratum provided.
